Newcastle are planning to bolster their striker ranks this summer by bidding for Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Hugo Ekitike, according to a report.

Magpies boss Eddie Howe can already rely on Chris Wood and Callum Wilson up front. Wood joined from Burnley in January, while Wilson was captured from Bournemouth in a £20million deal last September.

Wood is still adapting to life at Newcastle. So far he has found the net twice in 16 Premier League games while wearing the famous black and white shirt.

Wilson, meanwhile, was kept out for several months due to a calf injury.

Despite these two being established Premier League strikers, it seems Newcastle want to complete an overhaul in the summer.

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle are certain to make a bid for Everton ace Calvert-Lewin.

His future has come into question as Everton battle hard again relegation to the Championship. But Newcastle will put an offer on the table regardless of how Everton finish the campaign.

Calvert-Lewin, formerly a target for Arsenal, will have a hefty price tag. Reports dating back to March claim he will cost £60m, although relegation for the Toffees would reduce this.

Newcastle to submit big offer for Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Newcastle have the funds to match this fee due to their big-money takeover. But they won’t want to get into a bidding war as a result of potential Financial Fair Play sanctions.

Calvert-Lewin’s transfer value mainly stems from his fantastic form last season. The England international, 25, bagged 21 goals in 39 matches in all competitions.

He began the current season brightly, too, registering goals in consecutive matches against Southampton, Leeds and Brighton.

But Calvert-Lewin was then ruled out for three months due to a fractured toe. And he is yet to score since returning to the Everton squad in January.

Calvert-Lewin isn’t the only centre-forward Newcastle are pursuing. The Telegraph claim Howe’s side will return for Hugo Ekitike as well.

The Tyneside outfit were closing in on Ekitike’s signature during January’s transfer deadline day. However, they couldn’t get a deal over the line.

Ekitike had reservations about joining Newcastle given their poor form in the first half of the season.

But Howe has completely turned things around, and they now sit in 14th place. As a result, Ekitike is likely to join in the summer window.

The Reims attacker is just 19 years old but has found the net 10 times this campaign. Therefore, his arrival will be an exciting one for Magpies supporters.

Ekitike will cost around £29m, but Newcastle are more than willing to match this due to his high potential.

There is no doubt that the potential signings of Calvert-Lewin and Ekitike are clever ones. They both have the potential to shine at St James’ Park.

But Howe can already utilise Wood and Wilson up top. So they money could potentially be spent better in other positions.

Elsewhere, Newcastle have withdrawn from the race to sign Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard, as per The Telegraph.
